The players, known as the Texas Playboys, delighted audiences throughout the South and West, and influenced a whole slew on up and coming musicians. Wills’ secret was surrounding himself with some pretty hot musicians: Tiny Moore on mandolin, Leon McAauliffe on peddle steel, and the Great Tommy Duncan on vocals (just to name a few). On top of that, he arranged or wrote some of the most memorable and often-covered songs in 20th century popular music. The result was a truly unique and utterly danceable music. ![]() Wills was a musical melting pot of sorts, combining traditional string music with the horns and phrasing of jazz ad big band music, and tossing in a good dose of Tejano, gospel, and anything else he could find. While wills didn’t invent Western Swing, he was most certainly the most recognizable face of the genre. On this, our third violation podcast, we finally get around to talking about the late, great King of Western Swing: Bob Wills. However, what resulted in terms of the LP is a lyrical tour de force, with the band firing on all cylinders, to create what is considered by many to be the band's finest, and most realized, artistic statement. Rather than forgo those things essential to Prog Rock for the sound ofthe times, these bands filtered those elements through the lens of Punk and New Wave and created complicated music that was more melodic than its predecessors, often times harder-edged, with lyrics based more in real world themes, instead of the fantasy and sci-fi centered lyrics of the bands form the 70's. In the midst of all of this, a bunch of young bands who loved the Prog Rock of the 70's decided to ignore what was considered "hip" and make the music they wanted to make. By the early 1980's in the wake of Punk and New Wave, Progressive Rock (or Prog Rock) was considered decidedly "uncool" by the the music press. The deluxe reissue of Another World is slated for an April 22 release and can be pre-ordered here. In addition to "Maybe Baby," Another Disc also features covers of The Shadows‘ 1961 instrumental "F.B.I." and Conway Twitty’s 1958 track "It’s Only Make Believe." The cover will be featured on May's deluxe reissue of his second solo album, 1998's Another World, which contains a remastered version of the original album along with Another Disc that comprises unreleased material, including rarities, remixes, live tracks and cover. Peggy Sue has been mentioned in they lyrics to. Words of Love - 1, from the album Play Guitar With Buddy Holly, was released in the year 2012. Buddy began to change the guitar licks to fit the beat and the new rhythm developed right there on the spot.
